Tour group Adventure World reinforces mission to Travel with Purpose

Travel group Adventure World introduces new options for travellers journeying on their Conservation Collection of tours.

At a recent event in Sydney at the Australian Museum, expert travel group Adventure World announced a series of key initiatives to launch the company’s Travel with Purpose mission into action, including the Conservation Collection – exclusive and immersive small group tours to Asia, Latin America and Africa, with the first trip taking place in January 2023.

These custom and tailor-made trips were described by Managing Director Neil Rodgers as “culturally appropriate trips” for travellers. Rodgers spoke about sustainability and the modern traveller’s wish to make wise choices when travelling.

“The challenge for the consumer has been in finding reputable companies to travel with – so now, we’re being more bolshy about it,” said Rodgers. “On the path to purchase, people are asking ‘are we travelling sustainably?’”

Adventure World Travel, operational for more than 40 years, part of The Travel Corporation, is standing by its company’s Travel with Purpose mission.

“We don’t want to be green washing but to truly live by these values. Our charter that we work from is like a thick book – it guides how we work with our operators on the ground to create authentic travel experiences and customised itineraries with trusted, experienced destination experts,” said Rodgers.

“Adventure World’s Travel with Purpose ethos is about gaining deeper connection, knowledge and understanding of the places travellers go, the people they meet and the wildlife they see, with the goal of helping them to better the planet and inspire others to do the same”, Rodgers added.

At the event, a new partnership with Animals Asia was unveiled. Founder and CEO of Animals Asia, Dr Jill Robinson, spoke at the event about her not-for-profit organisation which she founded in 1998, “vowing to end bear cruelty in Asia.”

To date, Animals Asia has rescued more than 670 moon bears, saving them from the cruel bear bile industry. Dr Robinson has campaigned against the trade since 1993. The organisation also works in elephant rescues and supports ethical elephant tourism tours, helping with the first and only ethical elephant tourism program in Vietnam.

“We truly do need to travel with purpose,” said Dr Robinson. “There are over a million species facing extinction over the next few decades. It’s incumbent upon us all to protect the planet and the species we share it with,” she said.

Animals Asia is currently building a second bear sanctuary in Vietnam to save the remaining bears from the country’s bile farms. Bear bile farming has been pushing moon, and sun bears towards extinction.

Adventure World’s new trip add-on for guests in 2023 is to Vietnam to visit Animal Asia’s Tam Dao Bear Sanctuary including a four-day/three-night package in Hanoi, an exclusive behind-the-scenes day tour at the sanctuary (guided by Animals Asia staff), as well as an introduction to contemporary Hanoi life through its markets and cuisine. This package is exclusive to Adventure World.

To support Animals Asia’s efforts, Adventure World will be donating a ‘Mend a Broken Bear’ package (valued at AUD$300) for each Adventure World Asia booking made.

Locally, Adventure World is a long-standing partner with the Australian Museum and will continue to support its series of exhibitions in 2023, including the ‘Ramses the Great and the Gold of the Pharaohs’ exhibition in November 2023.
