Private pool accommodation and a two-bedroom Jim Thompson suite join redesigned rooms and expanded wellness facilities at the Bangkok hotel

Anantara Siam Bangkok Hotel has unveiled a US$50 million refurbishment spanning its 335 rooms, suites and villas, along with its spa, fitness and event facilities.

The hotel, which opened in Bangkok in 1983 and was designed by architect George Wimberley, has retained signature features including its garden courtyards and hand-painted lobby artwork. The changes introduce new accommodation options while drawing on the Thai materials and craftsmanship that have long shaped the property.

Redesigned rooms and private pools

The accommodation refurbishment extends from Deluxe Rooms through to the Siam Suites, Anantara Suites and Presidential Suite. Interiors feature warm teak, handcrafted details and silk accents, while bathrooms have been updated with marble finishes, bespoke vanities, new lighting and contemporary fittings.

Among the additions are the Anantara Garden Pool Suites and Villas. Set within tropical gardens, they combine private pools with indoor and outdoor living spaces, bringing a more residential style of accommodation to the city-centre property.

The two-bedroom Jim Thompson Explorer Suite has also been redesigned through Anantara’s global partnership with the Thai silk brand. Inspired by a Thai summer home, it features polished teak floors, painted panelled walls and curated artwork, alongside an open-plan living and dining area and a private library.

Preserving the hotel’s Thai artwork

The refurbishment has preserved the hotel’s 100-metre hand-painted lobby mural by Thai artist Paiboon Suwannakudt. Originally painted to mark the 200th anniversary of the reigning Chakri dynasty, the work remains a focal point of the hotel.

Above the lobby, 19 ceiling panels depict ‘Heavens in Thai Thought’, forming part of the collection of Thai art incorporated into the building’s original design.

These existing works sit alongside the updated interiors, which continue the use of traditional materials and decorative details throughout the accommodation.

Expanded wellness facilities

The Anantara Spa has undergone a complete refurbishment, with treatments continuing to draw on traditional Thai healing practices.

At the Siam Sports Club, additions include a new Technogym-equipped fitness centre and Pilates studio. An outdoor wellness area brings together a Muay Thai boxing ring, rock-climbing wall and functional training zone.

The hotel’s Grand Ballroom and meeting spaces have also been redesigned, with updated technology for conferences, weddings and other events.

Anantara Siam continues to operate nine restaurants and bars. These include Thai restaurant Spice Market, Italian restaurant Biscotti, Japanese restaurant Shintaro, Madison Steak Avenue and South American restaurant Guilty Bangkok.

Aqua Bar serves cocktails in a garden setting, while Mocha & Muffins offers pastries, cakes and coffee. Afternoon tea at The Lobby and poolside drinks and light meals at The Garden Terrace complete the dining line-up.
