The new Anantara Le Chaland Resort will open later this year and will be the brand’s first property in Mauritius
Anantara Hotels, Resorts & Spas has announced it will open its first resort in Mauritius in late 2019.
The new resort will be a part of an integrated coastal development in Blue Bay Marine Park—a leisure destination boasting a protected marine park, crystal-clear Indian Ocean waters, powdery white sand beaches and some of the best snorkelling and diving destinations on the island.
Located just 15 minutes from Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport, Anantara Le Chaland Resort will feature 164 guest rooms and suites when it opens later this year, with eight luxury pool villas – two with two bedrooms and six with four bedrooms – to be added in the first half of 2020. Facilities at the resort will include a 30-metre ozone-based swimming pool, a gym, a signature Anantara Spa and a kids’ club.
La Chaland will also have an array of dining options including a specialty grill and seafood restaurant with courtyard and beach dining, an all-day dining restaurant, a private dining room with a wine cellar, a healthy wellness-focused cafe and two bars – one by the poolside and the other one facing the beach.
The cuisine will range from traditional creole cooking to fine dining with European, Asian and African influences, with a focus on locally-harvested produce and freshly caught seafood.
The resort’s design will evoke the vibe of a relaxing, tropical beach house with a modern slant. It reflects Mauritius’ melting pot of history and cultural influences, drawing from the rich architectural heritage seen in the capital Port Louis and around the island. Natural, locally-sourced materials take precedence, the buildings referencing their natural setting while also nodding to local colonial architecture through thatched roofs and indigenous décor.
As part of Anantara’s commitment to sustainability and preservation of the island, the resort will incorporate solar technology for water heating in all guest rooms to reduce the usage on energy. Other green initiatives include planting endemic flora within the hotel landscaping, reusing water for irrigation and cleaning as well as incorporating recycled materials into resort décor. The property will be plastic straw-free, an Anantara standard, and where possible organic farming methods will be encouraged throughout its restaurant supply chain.
