What to expect from Celebrity’s first European river ships

Two new vessels, Celebrity Compass and Celebrity Seeker, will debut on the Rhine and Danube in 2027, introducing open decks, cantilevered dining pods and suite-style staterooms

Celebrity Cruises, best known for its contemporary ocean fleet, is preparing its first move into river cruising. Launching in 2027, Celebrity Compass and Celebrity Seeker will bring the design language of the Edge Series to Europe’s waterways, with an emphasis on space, light and contemporary living.

Open decks and cantilevered dining pods on Europe’s rivers

River vessels are often defined by compact layouts, yet these new ships introduce a patent-pending design that expands public areas and improves guest flow. Open decks provide uninterrupted 360-degree views and, according to the company, the most usable outdoor space of any river ship. Features include Magic Edge cantilevered dining pods over the water and a top-deck infinity-edge plunge pool. Celebrity River Cruises will also set sail with an innovative hull, delivering a lightweight versatile design that improves river navigation, while both new ships incorporate hybrid propulsion, advanced waste management and noise-reduction technology.

Suites designed with residential character

Accommodation is designed to feel more like a boutique residence than a traditional river cabin, with king-sized beds, intuitive storage and contemporary finishes. The line says staterooms offer the most in-room amenities on the river, including complimentary stocked mini bars and destination-inspired touches. Suite benefits extend to a dedicated butler via Butler Chat, exclusive dining, room service and happy hour experiences, complimentary laundry once per sailing, and priority booking for shore excursions. Skylight Infinite Balcony Suites add a ceiling window for natural light, continuing the brand’s indoors-outdoors approach.

Eight dining venues bring ocean favourites to the river

There are eight dining and bar venues on board, including Martini Bar, Sunset Bar and Café Al Bacio – the most choice and variety on the river, according to Celebrity. Menus change with the itinerary to highlight regional produce, while flexible service includes all-day dining and what the line describes as the river’s only 24/7 meal options.

Rhine and Danube sailings from 2027

The launch programme includes 33 seven-night sailings on the Rhine and Danube, with multiple port calls each day and overnight stays in key cities. Experiences range from private wine tastings in Austria to exploring Budapest’s thermal baths or cycling along the Danube. Optional pre- and post-cruise stays in cities such as Prague and Budapest will be available to extend the journey.
