Rosewood has opened its newest London hotel in Grosvenor Square, where the 1960 Saarinen-designed US Embassy has been restored with suites by Joseph Dirand and Europe’s largest hotel art collection
The Chancery Rosewood has opened its doors in London’s Grade II-listed former US Embassy on Grosvenor Square, Mayfair. Originally designed by Finnish-American architect Eero Saarinen in 1960, the modernist landmark has been restored by Sir David Chipperfield for Qatari Diar Europe LLP. Inside, French architect Joseph Dirand has introduced a restrained palette of warm tones and textured finishes, while London consultancy Cramer & Bell has curated more than 700 artworks – the largest hotel collection in Europe.

The hotel comprises 144 suites, including four Houses and two penthouses. Floor-to-ceiling windows frame views across Mayfair, Hyde Park and the London skyline, while the building’s original diagrid façade and gilded eagle sculpture by Theodore Roszak anchor it to its diplomatic past.

Dining
The hotel introduces eight restaurants and bars to the affluent neighbourhood. Carbone, the New York trattoria, makes its European debut, while Tobi Masa introduces the Japanese cuisine of Chef Masayoshi Takayama to London. Other venues include SERRA, inspired by southern Mediterranean cooking; Jacqueline, a tearoom and dessert salon; GSQ, a street-level delicatessen with terrace; and Eagle Bar, the rooftop cocktail bar with wraparound views.

Wellness is centred on the 1,119-square-metre Asaya Spa, designed by Yabu Pushelberg. Facilities include a 25-metre swimming pool, gym and thermal suite, alongside the Taktouk Clinic, led by Dr Wassim Taktouk. Treatments range from SkinCeuticals protocols to MoodsPro massages and EviDenS de Beauté rituals, blending clinical expertise with holistic therapies.
The opening brings Rosewood’s portfolio to 35 properties worldwide and marks the group’s latest flagship in Europe.
