Singapore-based COMO Hotels and Resorts will bring its signature blend of design, wellness and understated luxury to Melbourne’s St Kilda Road, marking the brand’s east coast debut and second Australian property
COMO Hotels and Resorts has announced plans for its first east coast Australian property – a design-led hotel and residence development on Melbourne’s iconic St Kilda Road.
Appointed by developer Orchard Piper and its partner The Carter Group, the project marks COMO’s second Australian hotel following the acclaimed COMO The Treasury in Perth, which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year. Set to open in early 2028, the new property will occupy the first nine levels of Orchard Piper’s The Carter Building, bringing 102 rooms, a COMO Shambhala wellness centre, and a suite of family-friendly accommodations to one of the city’s most recognisable boulevards.

Designed by Kerry Hill Architects (KHA) – the acclaimed Singapore- and Perth-based studio behind some of the world’s most recognisable luxury hotels, including Aman Tokyo, The Datai Langkawi and COMO The Treasury – the Melbourne property will continue the practice’s legacy of contextual, quietly expressive design. A bluestone façade will nod to the city’s architectural heritage, while interiors aim to reflect KHA’s signature restraint: warm natural materials, soft light and seamless spatial flow to create a sense of calm and intimacy within the urban setting.
Alongside the hotel, 54 private residences will enjoy access to COMO’s signature services and amenities, including in-room dining, housekeeping, and membership to the brand’s global recognition programme, Comoclub. A cornerstone of the development, the COMO Shambhala wellness concept will span an entire floor, offering holistic treatments that blend modern science and traditional healing. Facilities will include a 20-metre indoor lap pool, thermal experience, fitness centre, and dedicated function space.

“Partnering with COMO aligns perfectly with our vision to deliver a hotel that redefines Melbourne’s hospitality landscape,” said Orchard Piper Director Luke McKie. “Melbourne has seen an influx of new hotels in recent years, but few are in truly great locations. This property is perfectly situated for the city’s major events and will mark a return to a more understated and timeless luxury experience.”

When complete, the hotel will introduce COMO’s wellness-led philosophy, exacting service and seasonal, nutrition-rich cuisine to a new Melbourne audience, reinforcing the brand’s reputation for quietly confident luxury.
