Martin Hulbert’s transformation of Coworth Park’s Stable Rooms and Cottages is British country house craft at its most considered

Dorchester Collection has unveiled a significant design overhaul of the Stable Rooms, Stable Suites and Cottages at its Ascot estate, Coworth Park. Martin Hulbert, the British designer behind the property’s original 2011 transformation, returned with a new design direction that sees the estate now rooted in the landscape, its equestrian heritage and the rhythms of the English countryside.

The redesigned rooms showcase autumnal tones in layers of warm, natural materials. Hulbert incorporated bespoke resin tables cast with dried flowers collected from the estate’s own meadow along with wall textiles that were hand-drawn then block printed onto Irish linen, with patterns drawn from British landscapes and wildflower meadows. Leather upholstery, meanwhile, references Coworth Park’s equestrian past.

New to the redesign are private terraces and landscaped cottage gardens, planted with a mix of wild and cultivated woodland species. The gardens are designed to evolve through the year, with successive layers of flowers emerging through the seasons that nod to Hulbert’s interior design language.

The estate’s artwork collection has been newly curated across four themes: Equestrian, Rhythms of the Landscape, Seasonal Cycles, and Hedgerows and Meadows. The collection spans semi-impressionistic painting and abstract sculpture, each work chosen to connect the interiors to the story of the estate.

“The brief was clear: build on the legacy of Coworth Park’s past, while shaping it for the future,” said Hulbert. “More than 15 years ago we transformed a derelict site and abandoned house into a world of calm sophistication. Now we have refreshed these interiors, retaining the essence of its timeless blend where town and country blur with contemporary ease.”
