IHG Hotels & Resorts has announced Kimpton Suntaya Bali Ubud, a 101-room hotel set to open on Jalan Bisma in Ubud as the Kimpton brand’s first property in Bali and Indonesia. The address will sit alongside the Wos River, within walking distance of the Ubud Art Market and the historic Ubud Palace.

The standout element of the announcement is the dining program, which will span five venues. Notably, intimate omakase restaurant Imamura Ubud will be led by Michelin-starred chef Hirofumi Imamura, who will also oversee Shaku by Imamura, a more relaxed izakaya concept intended as a deliberate counterpoint to the precision of the omakase table.

Designed by Melbourne-based Denton Corker Marshall, the hotel’s design and architecture follows the natural contours of Ubud’s hillside and riverside terrain, with 101 accommodations ranging from standard rooms to pool suites and private pool villas. Ubud’s luxury hotel landscape is already impressive, with the likes of Mandapa, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve, Viceroy and Como Shambhala Estate, among others.

The property name – Suntaya, pronounced “soon-tie-yah” – draws from Sanskrit: Suniya, meaning stillness, and Taya, meaning vitality. According to the brand, the pairing is intended to reflect Ubud’s balance of contemplation and energy.

The wellness offering at Kimpton Suntaya Bali Ubud will include Sakshi Spa, grounded in Balinese healing traditions, alongside a two-storey fitness studio with contrast therapy and dedicated recovery facilities. Signature Kimpton programs will also feature: complimentary daily coffee and pastries, an evening social gathering for guests, and an on-call travel essentials service.

“It’s an honour to introduce Kimpton to Indonesia in a place as culturally rich and creatively alive as Ubud,” said general manager Austin Jones. “Kimpton Suntaya is designed to feel open, soulful, and connected – not just to the landscape, but to the people who live and travel here.”

Kimpton was founded in San Francisco in 1981 and made its Asia entry with Kimpton Da’An in Taipei. The brand has since expanded to Bangkok, Koh Samui, Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur. Kimpton Mayfair Adelaide is also among its confirmed 2026 openings, while Kimpton Margot Sydney opened in 2022.
