Lifestyle hotel brand The StandardX is making its Australian debut

The design-led hotel brand will debut in Melbourne’s trendy suburb of Fitzroy in February 2024

Lifestyle hotel brand The Standard has announced its first Australian hotel will open in Melbourne in February 2024. The StandardX, Melbourne, will follow in the footsteps of other The Standard outposts in New York, Miami, London, Bangkok, Hua Hin, Ibiza and the Maldives.

Positioned as “the rebellious younger sibling of The Standard”, according to the brand, The StandardX, Melbourne identity will be defined by minimalist rooms but quirkily-designed communal spaces, dynamic cultural programming and relaxed yet attentive hospitality.

Located in the vibrant, post-industrial enclave of Fitzroy, The StandardX, Melbourne will be rooted in its neighbourhood, with a style that reflects the suburb’s storied history of iconic record stores, punk clubs, writers’ haunts and party spots. The communal spaces will draw inspiration from Fitzroy’s 70s and 80s heyday, when artists like Nick Cave, Ollie Olsen, Stuart Grant and Rowland S. Howard established the Little Band scene. The 125 rooms, meanwhile, will showcase a contemporary and minimalist aesthetic.

With esteemed firm Hecker Guthrie behind the hotel’s good looks, guests will find splashes of art and design by local artists Sarah Smalltown, Jane Sinclair and Dane Lovett throughout the hotel’s spaces, along with custom furniture and antique pieces.

Two dining venues will be on offer at The StandardX, Melbourne including The Roof, an exclusive space accessible solely to hotel guests with panoramic views of Fitzroy and Melbourne; and Thai street food restaurant, BANG. Retail concept The Box will sell lifestyle products and curated snacks.

Additional The StandardX hotels are slated to open in Bangkok, Brooklyn and East Austin in the next few years.
