Vienna’s luxury hotel landscape will soon gain a new name. Mandarin Oriental will open its first Austrian property in the city’s historic First District on 20 October 2025, joining neighbours such as Rosewood, Almanac and Park Hyatt in one of Europe’s most competitive five-star markets.
The hotel occupies a heritage-listed Art Nouveau courthouse on Riemergasse, originally designed by architect Alfred Keller and completed in 1908. Its careful restoration preserves ornate detailing while introducing contemporary interiors, creating a dialogue between the Secessionist movement that shaped Vienna’s early 20th-century architecture and today’s understated Mandarin Oriental aesthetic.
“Our aim is to create a place that is both a retreat for international travellers and a meeting place for locals with an appreciation of the extraordinary,” said General Manager Mario Habicher.

Rooms and suites
The 138-key property includes 86 rooms and 52 suites. Light-filled spaces draw on original Art Nouveau elements alongside a muted palette of stone, timber and textiles. Three Mandarin Signature Suites and the Royal Suite provide expansive layouts designed as private residences.
Dining and social spaces
Under Austrian-born Executive Chef Thomas Seifried, the hotel introduces four new dining concepts. Le Sept offers a seafood-focused menu with French technique and Asian accents, while Atelier 7 – Brasserie provides an all-day menu with Austrian and Asian influences. Atelier 7 – The Café reinterprets the Viennese coffeehouse with speciality coffee and pastries, while Atelier 7 – Izakaya and Bar blends Art Nouveau and Japonisme in its cocktail programme. “Vienna is ready for a new culinary chapter that surprises, inspires and offers enjoyment at the highest level,” said Seifried.
Seven boardrooms and a 140-square-metre ballroom complete the hotel’s social spaces, designed for events, private gatherings and meetings.

Spa and wellness
The Spa at Mandarin Oriental, Vienna offers holistic therapies, including Mandarin Oriental signature treatments and rituals inspired by Austrian tradition. Facilities include seven treatment rooms, a couple’s suite, a 14-metre indoor pool, a fitness centre and a VIP wellness area.
Location
Set within the First District, the hotel places guests within walking distance of the Vienna State Opera, Albertina Museum and historic coffeehouses. By pairing its Art Nouveau legacy with contemporary luxury, Mandarin Oriental brings a new layer to the capital’s long tradition of grand hotels.
