The storied hotel on Manly Beach has opened to reveal a new, coastal-chic design and guest facilities as it joins the MGallery portfolio of properties.
Following a two-year renovation, the beachfront Manly Pacific hotel in Sydney has reopened as part of the MGallery collection with a fittingly modern coastal look.
The property dates to the late 1970s when the original Hotel Pacific, which opened in 1912, was demolished and rebuilt. It was most recently known as the Novotel Sydney Manly Pacific.
MGallery’s renovation project includes a refreshed façade, a redesign of the hotel’s 213 rooms and suites, a new sundeck with an infrared sauna, and a new lobby bar, among other improvements.
Dining includes the award-winning Bistro Manly, helmed by executive chef Ryan Dawson; Tokyo Joe, serving Japanese fusion dishes; and a new rooftop pool bar serving refined plates such as Black Pearl Siberian caviar, southern rock lobster, and a range of fresh seafood accompanied by champagne.
Nine ocean-facing two-bedroom Coastal Suites have been designed for guests to unwind, with spacious separate living and dining areas, balconies or terraces, and fresh foliage throughout. Customisable wellness menus include the option to request a Peloton bike, yoga mats, and skincare from Leif and LaGaia.
The pièce de résistance is the Infinity Residence, set across 177sqm. This one-bedroom suite features a fireplace, a kitchenette, an ensuite with a freestanding bathtub made from black terrazzo stone, and a living space that opens to a 100sqm private terrace. Guests of the Infinity Residence receive a personalised beach towel, customised pillows, fine linen, LaGaia bath and body products, and a personal butler on call throughout their stay.
Design notes
Sydney-based Coco Republic worked on the hotel refurbishment, making the most of ocean views and natural light to create a coastal-chic aesthetic. Soft, neutral tones drawn from the surrounding Northern Beaches can be seen in the fabrics, furniture, and fittings. Pale bleached timbers, travertine stone, and organic textures further lend to the laidback beachy vibe.
New lobby bar 55 North was conceptualised by Sydney-based firm, Luchetti Krelle, whose projects include North Sydney’s Rafi Café and Ovolo South Yarra in Melbourne. Arched ceilings are accentuated with timber veneers, while paved marble and tiles feature throughout the space.
Guests may also notice the hotel’s signature scent, derived from Australian botanicals local to the region, throughout the guest spaces.
Sustainability notes
Modern energy-saving controls in guest rooms and charging stations for electric vehicles have been installed at the property. Minibars include a selection of products from local suppliers, such as Manly Spirits, Seven Miles Coffee, Gumnut Chocolates, and Beachfox Sunscreen.
