One&Only Moonlight Basin opens in Montana’s Big Sky wilderness

One&Only Moonlight Basin | Resort Overview
One&Only has opened its first US and first alpine resort in Montana, unveiling a low-rise, design-led retreat set within the protected landscapes of Moonlight Basin
One&Only has entered the United States for the first time with the opening of One&Only Moonlight Basin in southwest Montana. Set across 240 acres and encircled by more than 17,000 acres of protected wilderness, the resort sits within the Moonlight Basin community, around an hour from Bozeman and near the boundary of Yellowstone National Park.
According to the brand, the new resort is designed to showcase the alpine environment while introducing a refined interpretation of mountain living. “There’s no place more breathtaking to make our debut than Big Sky,” says Mark Kirby, President, One&Only.

Architecture and accommodation
Designed by Tom Kundig of Olson Kundig, the resort adopts a low-rise profile that recedes into the forest, using timber, steel and stone to reflect the character of the region. Floor-to-ceiling windows frame views of the Spanish Peaks, and interiors draw on warm, tactile finishes.
Accommodation spans rooms and suites across the Main, East and West Lodges, with interconnecting configurations for families. The Big Sky Suite includes a wraparound terrace and outdoor soaking tub, while freestanding cabins offer greater seclusion with private fire pits and soaking tubs positioned for mountain views.
A collection of four- to six-bedroom Private Homes provides expanded indoor-outdoor living, complete with full kitchens, hot tubs and secure garage access.

Dining
Dining is led by Executive Chef Matt Dahlkemper, whose approach centres on regional seasonality. The Landing at Sky Lodge serves contemporary interpretations of American comfort dishes, while Wildwood presents ranch-to-table menus with a focus on local produce. Akira Back is a contemporary Japanese restaurant, Dear Josephine offers a Prohibition-inspired cocktail bar experience, and casual venues include a grab-and-go café and poolside service.

Experiences
The resort positions itself as a year-round base for mountain activities. In winter, a private One&Only Gondola transports guests to Big Sky Resort’s Madison Base in minutes. More than 24 kilometres of groomed and ungroomed trails weave through the property for snowshoeing, Nordic skiing and fat-tire biking.
As the seasons change, the network transitions to hiking and mountain biking routes. Two private alpine lakes offer fly fishing and paddleboarding, while guided excursions to Yellowstone operate throughout the year.

Wellness
One&Only Spa spans 1,580 square metres and includes eight treatment rooms, steam and sauna facilities, an oxygen bar and an indoor lap pool opening to the surrounding landscape. Treatments incorporate partnerships with ultra-luxe skincare brands, Augustinus Bader and Bastien Gonzalez, while a fitness centre, yoga deck and tennis court support broader wellbeing programs.
