Byron Bay’s Raes on Wategos to open new luxury property

Raes on Wategos, Byron Bay

The iconic boutique hotel in Byron Bay will reveal ten new suites at the former Victoria’s at Wategos site in late 2024

Iconic Byron Bay boutique hotel Raes on Wategos is expanding its footprint with the introduction of a second property, slated to open in late 2024. The new property – located just a one-minute walk from the original hotel at the former Victoria’s at Wategos – will feature ten spacious suites, and several luxurious amenities, including two lap pools, indoor common areas with fireplaces, and tropical landscaped gardens. Guests will also have access to the facilities at the original Raes, such as the acclaimed Raes Dining Room, the alfresco Cellar Bar, and the Raes Spa.

The expansion comes as Raes celebrates its 30th anniversary, providing guests with more opportunities to enjoy its world-class hospitality. “We have long considered the possibility of extending our offering at Raes on Wategos, and so the opportunity to procure a property as iconic as Victoria’s was one we embraced wholeheartedly,” says Raes Managing Director Jordy Catalano.

The property’s interiors will be crafted by designer Tamsin Johnson, who refurbished the original Raes site in 2016.

“In designing Raes on Wategos’ new property, I’ve strived to complement the design I did on the original Raes, whilst considering the building’s modern substrate,” says Johnson. “At the same time, I wanted to translate some of that lighter-hearted, playful, and coastal language that has sensations of the Mediterranean islands and the breezy feel of Byron. I also introduced another newer layer with some notable, iconic vintage design pieces mixed against a collection of my own newly custom-designed furniture.”

The new property is set to offer attentive and luxurious hospitality, with offerings like an in-house chauffeur, complimentary transfers, and drop-offs in Lexus vehicles.

Bookings for the new property will open in October 2024, with further details to be announced in the coming months.
