Luxury Sydney hotel, Sofitel Sydney Wentworth, is celebrating a 20-year partnership with the Art Gallery of NSW, as its official hotel partner and sponsor of major programs and exhibitions.
To mark the long-standing association, the hotel has released a number of initiatives to coincide with Australia’s most engaging and highly anticipated annual art event, the Archibald, Wynne and Sulman Prizes.
As with previous years, the Archibald Prize for portrait painting inspires Sofitel’s pastry team to create a new art-inspired High Tea.
This year, the team has created a High Tea experience as an ode to the Packing Room Prize 2023 winning portrait, Clown Jewels, by first-time Archibald Prize finalist, Cairns-based artist Andrea Huelin. The Clown Jewels work is a portrait of Cal Wilson, an Aotearoa New Zealand-born and Melbourne-based stand-up comedian.
The Archibald-inspired High Tea menu mimics the colourful and joyous painting whilst marrying traditional high tea treats with fine French touches. This year’s limited-edition High Tea menu features savoury bites, petit fours, cakes and pastries, such as traditional scones, opera cake, macarons and Sofitel Sydney’s signature Wentworth cheesecake.
The High Tea will be hosted in the hotel’s Velvet Room on level five and will run until 3 September, available on Saturdays and Sundays from 1:00–3:00 pm. The High Tea is priced at $69 per person or add bottomless French bubbles for an additional $20 per person.
Overnight package
For those wanting a longer stay, spend time in the hotel’s grand lobby where previous Archibald winning portraits from the past 20 years will be on display. Entry to the lobby is free and accessible to all.
Sofitel Sydney Wentworth has also created an exclusive, artfully curated Cultural Getaway package that includes overnight accommodation with a complimentary upgrade to a superior room and luxury Balmain Paris amenities, two tickets to the Archibald, Wynne and Sulman Prizes 2023 exhibition, two welcome drinks at the hotels’ Soirée Bar and buffet breakfast for two at the Court Garden Restaurant. Prices start from $370.
