South America’s first luxury sleeper train
Travellers will soon be able to ride the rails with Belmond along Peru’s Andes – one of the highest routes in the world.
Luxury rail and hotel company Belmond has announced a new train – Belmond Andean Explorer – set to launch in Peru in May 2017. The train will travel along the Peruvian Andes from Cusco to Lake Titicaca, one of the highest rail routes in the world.
Belmond Andean Explorer will accommodate 68 guests in a range of different cabin layouts, including two double cabins, 20 twin cabins and 12 bunk bed cabins. Each cabin will have its own ensuite. The train will also have two dining cars, an observation car with an open-air deck and a lounge car. Chefs at Belmond Hotel Monasterio in Cusco will create menus using local, seasonal produce.
Of the four journeys that will be available for travellers, the two-night Peruvian Highlands journey from Cusco to Arequipa will stop in Puno for guests to visit the floating villages of Lake Titicaca. A shorter overnight Spirit of the Andes journey will travel along the Altiplano from Lake Titicaca to Cusco.
The announcement comes as Belmond’s Grand Hibernian train gets set to make its inaugural journey in August 2016 through Ireland.
Fully inclusive prices will start from $462 per person for the overnight journey.
