The StandardX Melbourne will finally open next month

The new hotel brings innovative design and culinary experiences to Melbourne’s cultural heart

The StandardX Melbourne by Standard International will finally open its doors on August 8, 2024 after a five-month delay. This marks the Australian debut of the new StandardX brand, which promises to blend distinctive cultural vibrancy with Fitzroy’s rebellious spirit and artistic pulse.

Located at 62 Rose Street, The StandardX Melbourne reflects the creative energy of its surroundings. The hotel features 125 rooms, each thoughtfully designed to combine urban grit with modern comfort. Interiors by Melbourne-based firm Hecker Guthrie showcase a contemporary, uncomplicated aesthetic, featuring custom furniture and artwork by local artists such as Jane Sinclair.

The hotel’s design pays homage to Fitzroy’s rich cultural history, drawing inspiration from the area’s post-punk Little Band scene and current vibrant street art and music venues.

The lobby’s bold revolving door and elevated loft space invite guests to linger and soak in the artistic atmosphere. Its decor includes columns wrapped in macrame by local artist Sarah Smalltown and paintings by Dane Lovett, creating a welcoming space that reflects Melbourne’s unique cultural tapestry.

The lobby will also house The Box, a retail concept offering everyday essentials, lifestyle items, snacks, and beverages.

A highlight of The StandardX Melbourne is its food and beverage offerings, led by Executive Chef Justin Dingle-Garciyya. The hotel will introduce BANG, an all-day dining restaurant that redefines Thai street food using locally sourced produce from Melbourne and Victoria.

The menu features bold dishes like hibachi pork and octopus skewers, blue swimmer crab Pa Tong Ko doughnuts, and slow-cooked Wagyu beef short rib. The drinks menu complements the food with creative cocktails like “Dear Angie” and “Khunpa,” incorporating Thai-inspired ingredients.

The StandardX Melbourne also features The Roof, an exclusive secret hideaway for hotel guests only. Here, guests can enjoy Mercado Medellin flavours while taking in panoramic views of Fitzroy and Melbourne.

The StandardX Melbourne is part of Standard International’s broader expansion plans. The brand aims to bring its unique blend of style, culture, and hospitality to other locations, with potential targets including Bangkok and more.
