Uluru to Become Opera Australia’s Scenic Backdrop For One Night
For the first time ever, one lucky audience is getting the chance to witness the opera at the spiritual centre of Australia
Voyages Indigenous Tourism Australia has announced an exclusive performance from Opera Australia at Ayers Rock Resort, where Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park and Bruce Munro’s Field of Light Uluru will form the performance’s spectacular scenic backdrop.
The opera gala will be held under the stars on Saturday 2nd November 2019 with performances by several of Opera Australia’s finest singers including Natalie Aroyan, Lorina Gore, Angela Hogan, Diego Torre and Haotian Qi. They will perform a number of famous arias from Bizet, Puccini, Rossini, Verdi and Delibes during the program, accompanied by a chamber orchestra conducted by Tahu Matheson.
The one-night event will also offer a completely unrivalled way to experience the global art phenomenon, the Field of Light Uluru. Since opening at Ayers Rock Resort in 2016, Bruce Munro’s immersive artwork has dazzled visitors from all over the world, and due to mass popularity its run has been extended to the end of 2020.
In what will be a once-in-a-lifetime experience, those present on the evening will get to listen to beautiful music as the sun sets over the desert backdrop, which will then transform into a landscape illuminated by the spellbinding colours of Field of Light Ulutu’s 50,000 glass spheres.
Voyages Indigenous Tourism Australia CEO Grant Hunt said the evening is one that marries sublime art with a uniquely Australian Setting. “We know that our guests are drawn time and again to the magic of Uluru, and that they want to engage in a range of experiences that allow them to gain a deeper enjoyment of the destination, which is why we have worked hard to enable Opera Australia to perform here in the heart of Australia.”
“I was so profoundly moved when I first visited [Uluru],” Opera Australia’s Artistic Director, Lyndon Terracini, added. “…Moved by a sense of awe, and spirituality that is palpable, and by the raw beauty of the landscape. Opera Australia is honoured to be presenting our first ever performance at Australia’s spiritual centre, on the sacred lands surrounding Uluru.”
Two and Three-Night Uluru Opera Packages — starting with a $750 per person twin share at the Ayers Rock Resort — are offered to provide the ultimate experience. Each package includes breakfast daily, return airport transfers and, of course, a ticket to the Opera Australia gala performance.
Two celebratory dining experiences are also offered to further enhance this unforgettable weekend but are selling fast with the Starlight Dinner on Sunday 3 November already sold out. Bookings are still available, with a limited number of spaces left, for the Welcome Dinner on Friday 1 November ($289 per person).
The dinner will include champagne and canapés, followed by a sumptuous three course dinner inspired by the Tali Wiru signature dining experience showcasing bush tucker ingredients paired with premium wines. An aria from an Opera Australia performer will be provided as entertainment with members of Opera Australia dining alongside guests.
