Olympic Games Paris 2024 Opening Ceremony

Paris dazzles from every angle. And you’ll have a front-row seat to some of its most iconic attractions when you attend the Olympic Games Paris 2024. For the first time in history, this event will take place on the banks of a river, the Seine, rather than in a stadium. This will give millions of spectators the chance to enjoy coveted views of the athletes’ parade, while basking in the beauty of Paris’s most legendary monuments.

New sports in Olympic Games Paris 2024

The Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games saw four new sports added to the roster: skateboarding, mountain biking, sport climbing and surfing. The new sport for 2024 is even more exciting. Breakdancing is set to make its debut at the Paris Olympic Games. The event will feature men and women’s competitions with head-to-head matchups. Like gymnastics events, judges will determine the winners based on technical skills, creativity, style, speed, strength, rhythm and agility.

Parisian landmarks will host Olympic events

If your itinerary for the Olympic Games is too jam-packed to allow sightseeing, never fear – events will be hosted at some of the most iconic landmarks in Paris. Think beach volleyball under the Eiffel Tower, skateboarding at the Place de la Concorde and equestrian sports at the Château de Versailles. The goal is to take sport out of traditional spaces, and put competitions at the heart of the city, in front of the most famous Parisian landmarks.

Other Olympic Games Paris 2024 firsts

It won’t just be the athletes breaking records at the Olympic Games Paris 2024. This will be the first time in history where an Olympic Games will achieve a 50-50 split between male and female athletes, compared with Rio 2016 (47.5 per cent female) and Tokyo 2020 (48.8 per cent female). This year will also mark the first time (since it was added in 1984) that the women’s marathon will close the athletics program, instead of the men’s.
