Mandarin Oriental to open an urban oasis in the heart of Rome

The luxury retreat, set in historic 19th-century Roman villas, will debut in 2026

Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group has announced plans to open a new luxury hotel in the centre of Rome. Set to debut in 2026, this urban oasis will be housed in ten 19th-century villas, located between Via Piemonte and Via Sallustiana within The Gardens of Sallust. This addition will bring the Group’s Italian portfolio to five properties, joining its existing hotels in Milan and Lake Como, and the upcoming locations in Cortina and Porto Cervo.

The new Mandarin Oriental, Rome will offer 108 guestrooms and suites, many featuring private gardens and terraces with views of the lush landscaped surroundings or the city’s landmarks. Gilles & Boissier, the French duo known for their sophisticated and contemporary style, will craft the interior design, ensuring each room exudes elegance and comfort. The dining options, curated by DimoreStudio, will include six restaurants and bars, with the Mandarin Bar providing captivating city views from an expansive rooftop terrace.

The hotel will also feature a comprehensive wellness area. Guests can enjoy the Spa at Mandarin Oriental, which will offer the Group’s award-winning wellness treatments in a serene setting. The facilities will include six treatment rooms, a VIP suite, thermal rooms, and a dedicated sundeck. Fitness enthusiasts will have access to state-of-the-art equipment, and both indoor and outdoor pools set amidst the beautifully landscaped gardens will cater to swimmers.

Located in a tranquil private neighbourhood, the hotel’s villas were originally built as homes for affluent Romans. The renovation project aims to honour the historical significance of the villas while integrating contemporary luxury and comfort. The secluded site offers a peaceful retreat while being just steps away from Rome’s major attractions, including the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, and Piazza Navona.
