London’s esteemed luxury department store has chosen Shanghai as the location for its first members’ club, set to open with high-end hospitality services at the end of 2023.

Harrods, the famed British luxury department store in Knightsbridge, London, has announced a new high-end hospitality offering with The Residence, a private members’ club slated to open in Shanghai at the end of 2023.

Set on the second level of Cha House — the site of Harrods’ existing Tea Room and Piano Bar — the club will draw on Harrods’ heritage in its luxurious hospitality proposition. Premium dining will be from celebrated chef Gordon Ramsay, who will open his first Shanghai eatery, Gordan Ramsay at The Residence Shanghai, centred on elevated British cuisine.

A rare whisky collection from some of Scotland’s most esteemed distilleries, including The Macallan, The Glenrothes, and Highland Park, will also be available for members. The Residence will host private dinners and masterclasses to enhance the member experience.

The club concept has been created to cater to an increasingly discerning Shanghai market seeking privacy, discretion, and high-end experiences with an exclusive community, says Michael Ward, Managing Director, Harrods:

“Membership is a unique proposition in Shanghai, offering not only world-class dining and spirits with a like-minded network but also unlocking exclusive Harrods international lifestyle and concierge services to create unparalleled experiences for every member.”

The club will be limited to 250 members, with additional members considered through peer nominations. Three membership tiers will be offered at an annual fee, which allows access to all the club’s facilities.

Members will also receive Black Tier Status with Harrods’ rewards offering and lifestyle services, including Harrods Aviation, Harrods Estates, Harrods Interior Design, and private shopping services in the Knightsbridge store.
