Best dining in Australia announced

Melbourne restaurant Attica was this week named the number one restaurant in Australia by 500 of the country’s restaurateurs and chefs in the Australian Financial Review’s Top 100 Restaurants in Australia awards for 2016.

Luxury Travel magazine attended a lavish awards dinner at Sydney’s The Star on Monday, where the top 100 were announced along with awards for Australia’s Best Chef (Dan Hunter, Brae) and Australia’s Top Service Team (Sepia), a new award introduced in 2016.

As well as landing the award for Best Chef, Dan Hunter’s Brae restaurant in Victoria also took out the number two spot in the top 100, followed by Sydney restaurants Sepia at number three, Quay at number four, and Ester at number five. Restaurants from NSW took out seven of the top 10 spots in total, with Tasmanian newcomer Franklin coming in at number 10.

Other notable winners were Africola, which won the best restaurant in SA; Gerard’s Bistro, which took out the top award for QLD; Restaurant Amusé, which won best in WA; and Monster Kitchen and Bar at Hotel Hotel, which won best in ACT.

Asian diner AKIBA in Canberra was nominated as the People’s Choice.
